The Centre appears to be in no haste to initiate action against Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid until it gets the report from the UP Government regarding the alleged misuse of funds by the Khurshid-run Zakir Hussain Memorial Trust.
And the Akhilesh Yadav-led SP Government had ordered a probe into the allegations levelled against the Trust.
However, Union Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions V Narayanasamy on Wednesday made it clear that no action could be initiated against Khurshid merely on the basis of the allegations levelled against him.
Narayanasamy, who inaugurated the biennial International Commonwealth Association for Public Administration and Management (CAPAM) Conference, pointed out that the UP Government had ordered an inquiry into allegations following a request made by the Trust’s project director and Khurshid’s wife Louise.
“She (Louise Khurshid, wife of Salman Khurshid) herself has volunteered. The UP Government has ordered the inquiry. Now the inquiry is going on. Before the inquiry is over, jumping to any conclusion is totally incorrect. That is why we need to wait for the inquiry report on the basis of which any action will be taken,” he told reporters.
According to Narayanasamy “simply because an allegation has come, action cannot be taken against the minister (Khurshid). It is totally unwarranted”. He also declined to comment on the allegations saying, “the inquiry is on. I cannot comment.” Earlier, there was speculation regarding the fate of Khurshid in the Union Cabinet as he had cancelled his Hajj plans.
