GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said anyone found supporting Pakistan, directly or indirectly, would be arrested under the National Security Act (NSA).
“We will arrest anyone who makes an anti-India statement. If somebody supports Pakistan, directly or indirectly, NSA will be slapped,” Sarma said on the sidelines of the BJP’s unveiling of the manifesto “Sankalp Patra” for next month’s panchayat polls.
"There are no similarities between Bharat and Pakistan. The two countries are enemy nations and we must remain like that," Assam CM told reporters on the sidelines of a programme at the state BJP office here.
Meanwhile, three more persons were arrested in the state for alleged anti-India remarks over the Pahalgam terror attack. These took the total number of such arrests to 11.
Md Mustak Ahmed alias Sahel, son of Kabir Ahmed from Saykut village under Karimganj police station in southern Assam’s Barak Valley, was arrested on Friday night for posting “Pakistan Zindabad” on Facebook.
Two others were arrested by the police in the Cachar district of the valley for posting content on social media supporting Pakistan.
The accused were identified as Baktar Hussain Barbhuiya, a resident of Ramnagar under Sonai police station, and Md Imran Hussain Borbhuiya, a resident of Malugram Ganiwala under Silchar police station.
Aminul Islam, an MLA of the opposition party All India United Democratic Front, was the first to be arrested on Thursday. He had allegedly linked the BJP-led central government to the Pahalgam attack. A local court in central Assam’s Nagaon district on Friday sent him to four-day police custody.
Terrorists struck Baisaran, a prime tourist location in Pahalgam in south Kashmir on Tuesday, killing at least 26 people, mostly tourists, and injuring several others.
