Ranchi cyber police seek X account details of JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch

It alleged that some posts sought to create fear or confusion among the public, misrepresent government actions and undermine the reputation of constitutional institutions.

RANCHI: The cyber police in Ranchi have issued a notice to X Corporation seeking details of the person managing the JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch’s social media account, while probing the clash between students and JMM workers that included burning effigies of Chief Minister Hemant Soren and LoP Rahul Gandhi, on Friday.

The notice has been issued under Section 94 of the BNSS Act.

According to the police, the 'JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch' social media handle shared posts, videos and images concerning the Jharkhand government's actions. The police have prima facie deemed the agitation content false, misleading or objectionable.

Information regarding the account is being sought from the platform to identify the individual operating it.

“This letter is issued in connection with a criminal investigation into the dissemination of false and misleading information. It has come to the notice of this office that the X account @JPSCreformanch (JPSC JSSC REFORM MANCH) is being used to continuously post videos and photographs that contain false and fabricated news regarding the actions of the Government of Jharkhand,” stated the notice issued to X.

The notice said several posts concerning government and police actions were published from the account. It alleged that some posts sought to create fear or confusion among the public, misrepresent government actions and undermine the reputation of constitutional institutions.

“In the interest of the ongoing investigation and to ascertain the identity of the individuals behind this handle, you are hereby directed in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, read with Section 69 of the Information Technology Act, 2000 (which empowers the Government to direct intermediaries to intercept, monitor, or decrypt information for investigation and public order), to provide the following information about the X account @JPSCreformanch,” mentioned the notice.

The cyber police have further sought registrant details that include full name, residential address, contact telephone number and alternative email address of the account holder, along with the ‘Account Activity Logs’, login and logout records, with precise date and time stamps (including IP addresses) for the period covering August 10, 2026, and the preceding period.

The cyber police also need Information of the devices used to access the account, including make, model and IMEI numbers where available.

Three separate FIRs have been registered against the protesting students of JPSC-JSSC Reform Manch in connection with the clash in Ranchi on August 21.

The students alleged that the government had misled them into ending their earlier protest by promising to address their demands.
