A woman allegedly killed her husband by slashing his abdomen and was seen attempting to put his protruding intestines into a plastic bag before jumping from the terrace of their house in Haryana's Kurukshetra, police said on Monday.
The incident took place on Saturday at their rented house on Pehowa Road. The deceased identified as Rajesh, 40, originally from Dhampur village in Uttar Pradesh, had been living there with his wife, Vimla Devi, for about a year.
According to landlord Rinku, he heard the couple arguing at around 5 pm and went to the terrace, where he allegedly found Rajesh lying in a pool of blood with a deep wound to his abdomen.
The landlord told police that he saw Devi putting Rajesh's protruding intestines into a plastic bag.
Devi allegedly panicked after seeing the landlord and jumped from the terrace. She suffered serious injuries, including spinal injuries, and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.
Police recovered three knives of different sizes from the scene.
The post-mortem examination has raised further questions about the circumstances surrounding Rajesh's death. Police said that around half of the deceased's liver and his right kidney were missing when the body was brought for examination.
A deep incision measuring approximately 37 centimetres was found on the abdomen, with the intestines protruding through the wound, they said.
Police are now investigating the whereabouts of the missing organs and whether their disappearance is connected to the killing.
According to the landlord, Devi was involved in 'jhaad-phoonk', a traditional practice associated with healing and exorcism, and the couple frequently quarrelled. The couple had been married for several years but had no children.
Police, however, said the exact motive for the alleged murder has not yet been established.
Adarsh police station SHO Surender Sandhu said Devi would be questioned once her medical condition improves. Police will take further action, including her arrest and interrogation, based on the findings of the investigation.
