

The Centre has extended the tenure of Pravin Sood as CBI Director by one more year, allowing him to continue till May 2027 despite his retirement due this month. The move has sparked intense buzz within police circles, as Gujarat Cadre IPS Manoj Sashidharan was seen as a strong contender for the top post. Serving as CBI special director, Sashidharan enjoys a strong reputation and is considered close to the Centre’s trusted circle. Sources claim the extension was linked to sensitive pending CBI investigations and possible political shifts in West Bengal ahead of crucial developments.
Another shake-up likely in state secretariat
After the recent reshuffle of 72 IAS officers, fresh buzz has gripped the state secretariat over another round of senior-level transfers. The discussion intensified after Mona Khandhar and Aarti Kanwar moved to Delhi on deputation, leaving key posts vacant. The Chief Commissioner of GST post is now at the centre of speculation, with Finance ACS Natarajan likely to get full-time charge after a possible transfer from the Finance Department. A regular appointment is also expected in food and civil supplies. Adding to the churn, several senior IAS officers have reportedly sought transfers.
Congress leader revolts against high command
Fresh infighting has exploded inside the Gujarat Congress after senior Surat leader Maqsood Mirza challenged his suspension over alleged indiscipline. Mirza claimed he learnt about the action only after the suspension letter went viral, accusing the party of bypassing due process. The controversy erupted after Mirza openly targeted GPCC chief Amit Chavda with sharp social media allegations against the state leadership. Following the remarks, disciplinary committee chairman Natwarsinh Mahida ordered his immediate suspension.
