DODDABALLAPUR:A leopard which strayed into an empty shed belonging to a farmer in Karepura village, Doddaballapur, Bengaluru Rural district, was trapped alive by forest officials on Sunday. The entire operation took about one-and-a-half hours.
On Saturday night, Naganna, the farmer, went to bed after tying his cattle in a shed and checking on the hens in another shed. It was 3.30am when he heard some noise from the direction of the sheds and thought it could be a cat prowling. Later, he got suspicious and opened his window to find a leopard all set to enter the empty shed. Immediately he alerted his family and came out of the house and saw the leopard in the shed. He then quietly locked the door of the shed and shut the windows.
Naganna said the leopard tried to break open the door. His family alerted the villagers and also informed the police and the forest officials. The forest team reached there around 7am. When they opened the door of the shed a little, the leopard tried to dart through it. They then quickly shut the door. When drum beats had no effect, they then placed a cage in front of the shed. The leopard walked into the cage. The forest team later shifted it to Bannerghatta.
