HAMPI : The Kannada University, Hampi, is planning to reach out to the Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), whose mother tongue is Kannada, to teach their children Kannada.The university is planning to realise this project through online platforms.
Vice-Chancellor Mallika S Ghanti told Express that the university had prepared a plan when Vivek Rai was the vice-chancellor. But it failed to implement the same due to some reasons. However, now the time has come to realise the plan, which aims at spreading Kannada across the world.
Mallika said millions of Kannadigas are residing in different parts of the world. Though the elders read, write and speak Kannada, their children have less access to the language.
“As part of the initiative, the university is planning to launch a separate website to offer online Kannada language course for such kids and other interested people. The study material in e-book format and podcast will help them learn the language effectively,” she added. Mallika said the plan is in the initial stages.
“There are several Kannada organisations abroad, some came up with the support of the Kannada Development Authority. Such organisations will also be made part to make the initiative a success,” she added.
