BENGALURU: The High Court on Monday declined to stay the single bench order that the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has no authority to grant recognition to the institutions imparting nursing courses in the state. The court, however, stayed the second part of the order, which had barred INC from publish the list of institutions which are recognised by it.

“Simultaneously, it shall be open to the Karnataka State Nursing Council to publish the list of nursing institutions recognised by it,” the division bench said. On July 24, 2017, the single judge had ordered that INC has no authority to grant recognition to institutions imparting nursing courses in the state.

The judge also restrained INC from publishing on its website, materials indicating that the institutions imparting nursing courses have to obtain recognition from it and also that nursing colleges must have INC’s recognition. During the hearing, the INC’s counsel argued that INC Act provided power to regulate nursing institutions.
