BENGALURU: The anti corruption branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Bengaluru, recently registered a criminal case against some teacher education institutions, officials of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Bengaluru, and the Southern Regional Committee’s visiting team members for criminal conspiracy, cheating and forgery.
As per the documents available with Express, the FIR has been registered against 21 colleges from Bengaluru, Vijayapura, Hubballi, Chitradurga in Karnataka and Madanapalle, Gunthkal, Tadipatri, Kurnool, Nandiyala, Nandikotkur, Dharmavaram, Chitoor, Karvetinagar and Kadappa in Andhra Pradesh.
The FIR states that the Central Bureau of Investigation had received reliable information about the officials of SRC, NCTE and the visiting team entering into a criminal conspiracy with the institutions and abusing their official positions while conducting verification of infrastructure and academic facilities of the institutes.
They allegedly granted recognition to the institutes to conduct courses during the year 2016-17, violating NCTE norms.
The National Council for Teacher Education officials allegedly granted permission to these institutes for the courses without verifying the documents and addresses, which turned out to be false.
