THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ON the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the first Communist government in the state, focus should be on bringing together people irrespective of their political differences, CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran has opined. In a detailed article on the diamond jubilee of the first government, the CPI state chief has said the biggest achievements of the first Communist government in Kerala were the Education Bill and the Agrarian Relations Bill. He also called upon LDF workers to strengthen the front by expanding its foundation.
With the Agrarian Relations Bill, Kerala became a model for other states. Before the Bill was passed in Assembly, detailed discussions were held at the party state council. Based on these discussions, the bill was framed. Later when it came up before the Assembly, detailed discussions were held. Such a constant and democratic process might have never occurred. Similarly the Education Bill, brought out by Professor Joseph Mundassery, had proposals to monitor teachers’ appointments in private schools and take over management schools which violated the norms.
“The action plan and programmes launched by the first Communist government in the state were projects formulated by keeping in mind a national development perspective. The 28-month-long Communist government initiated programmes aimed at a social change at all sectors,” he said.
