KOZHENCHERRY : St Teresa’s College, Ernakulam, was crowned champion of Noopura-2017, the MG University Youth Festival, which concluded here on Friday.
In a see-saw battle, the defending champions thwarted Sacred Heart College, Thevara, to emerge victorious with 84 points. The latter managed to secure 65 points to settle in the second place.
The festival was dominated by colleges from Ernakulam. The RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Tripunithura, was third with 64 points, while Maharaja’s College and MES, Marampally, bagged fourth and fifth positions, respectively, with 58 and 48 points.
Thanks to an impressive performance, Architha Anish Kumar of St Teresa’s achieved the rare honour of being selected as the ‘Kalathilakam’ for the fourth consecutive year. Vipidas of RLV Music and Fine Arts college, Tripunithura, was adjudged ‘Kalaprathiba’.
The major attraction of the final day of the fest was the Oppana competition. Group song, vocals solo and classical music competitions were also held.
As many as 5,000 students from nearly 300 MG University colleges had showcased their talents in the five-day fest across seven venues - five on the St Thomas College ground and one each at Kozhencherry panchayat stadium and MGM auditorium, Thekkemala. The only downers to the festival were organisational flaws and lesser participation in comparison to its previous editions.
