KOCHI: After Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram, which have qualified for the Union Government’s Smart City Mission, the state government is making all efforts for the inclusion of Kozhikode in the smart city map, Local Self Government Minister K T Jaleel said here on Friday.
Inaugurating a three-day conference ‘TenSymp-2017’, Jaleel said restructuring of our cities to meet global standards, smartness and sustainability was not a challenge that rested solely in the arms of the government. “Citizens and organisations have to come forward to define their city’s smartness and enable its successful transformation. The conference is a crucial step in this direction,” he said.
Stating the government was making active efforts for the inclusion of Kozhikode in the smart city map, Jaleel said strategies are needed to evolve suitable schemes and strategies for restructuring the cities.
The conference was organised by the Kerala section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), the largest professional organisation of engineers in the world, with the support of the Kerala State IT Mission.
Dr K R Suresh Nair, chairman, IEEE, Kerala section, in his presidential address said the conference focused on evolving newer ideas and schemes for redevelopment of our cities to improve urban life. Hyderabad IIT director U B Desai delivered the keynote address. Dr S M Sameer, vice-chairman, IEEE, Kerala section, Mini U and Sasi P M spoke in the inaugural session.
