THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI’s student wing AISF has announced an ‘education bandh’ on Monday on campuses affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University (KTU). The bandh has been declared as part of the student organisation’s ongoing agitation against the ‘year out’ system implemented by the university. The AISF took out a march to the Secretariat on Saturday demanding a rollback of the ‘year out’ system. Police used water cannons to disperse the students.
Inaugurating the protest march, AISF state president J Arun Babu urged KTU to end its ‘anti-student’ policies. He added the student community was concerned about the ‘year out’ system. “During discussions with student unions, an assurance was given that candidates will be given three chances per paper. But the students were given only one chance. The university also failed to announce the results in a timely manner,” he added. He said the administrative machinery in the university has collapsed,
