KOCHI:  A few weeks ago, the Kerala History Museum was witness to a unique event. Children from various schools across the state came together to perform the junior symphony orchaestra ‘Euphony’, a first of its kind in Kerala. Thirty four students took part in the orchestra.

The event was organised as part of the annual day celebrations of Thomsun Music Education.

An orchestra is an ensemble of multiple musical instruments coming together to play a symphony that is soothing to the ears of the listener. And according to the organisers, setting an Orchestra, synchronizing the music and playing it to perfection is not an easy task.

“Such an orchestra is rare in India, especially in Kerala. There was a large crowd which was a great exposure for the students,”  M S Viswanath said.

The students were very excited by the prospect of performing the first ever fusion orchestra in Kerala. They were dedicated and practiced day and night for four months for this performance, he said.

There were violin, viola and cello artists and the symphony was conducted by M S Viswanath.

Stephen Devassy, known for his extraordinary keyboard skills, was also present on the occasion. Stephen also joined the orchestra to perform the famous Malayalam song ‘Nee Madhu pakaru’.

Euphony also performed the theme song from The Pirates of the Caribbean, My favorite things soundtrack from Sound of Music and also the famous Ode to Joy- Beethoven’s ninth Symphony. They also performed M S Vishwanath’s composition ‘Raagamalika’ which was very well appreciated by the audience.
The ensemble plans to record and release symphonies in the future while preparing for some live performances in the near future.
