KOCHI: The relative lack of constraints compared to feature-length works make short films ideal for technical and aesthetical experimentation, said director Shaji N Karun.
“As a feature filmmaker, I am constantly anxious about finances and time, but such concerns need not apply, or are not as pressing, to those making short films. They can be more fearless, dynamic and thoughtful,” said the national award-winning filmmaker.

He was speaking at the inauguration of the specially curated film package, titled ‘Berlinale Spotlight’, at the Pavilion in Cabral Yard, Fort Kochi, the other day.
The three-day package, part of the Kochi Biennale Foundation’s ‘Artists’ Cinema’ programme, includes six works screened at the 67th edition of the Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).

Acknowledging the Berlinale’s effort to identify and capture the pulse of contemporary short film makers, Karun said, “Through short films, in particular, we could be able to achieve even our most abstract thoughts and memories in much more stronger and matured forms.”
