KOCHI: Cartoons and caricatures make quite an impact among people, all the while touching a funny nerve. However, Aluva-based Cartoonist, Ibrahim Badusha was at KMEA Engineering College, Aluva, on Monday with a mission; he was all set roll out the ‘Longest Live Caricature Drawing Show’ which he has named ‘portrature’. “I’m not making funny representations of anyone.

Instead, my drawings are somewhere between a caricature and a portrait, hence the name portrature,” said Badusha.

He had set himself a target of drawing 750 caricatures within twelve hours, and his intention was to break the Limca Record which is in the name of Sajjive Balakrishnan for sketching most number of caricatures done in a stipulated time.

Sajjive was included in the Limca Book of Records for being the fastest caricaturist in India in 2012. And the ‘Longest Live Caricature Drawing Show’ at Kapricious ‘17, an intercollegiate technical meet at KMEA College, has paved the way for Badusha to break the record made by Sajjive.

The theme for the caricature show was ‘Stand up for children. There is no excuse for child abuse’. “To spread awareness among the public about child abuse that prevails in our society, we are requesting people to upload the the photographs of them holding their caricature drawn by Badusha on Facebook and Whatsapp and make it their display picture.

The message is etched on the photograph and we intend to spread the thought this way”, said Subaith Umer, Assistant Professor, Mechanical Engineering KMEA. “The revenue acquired through the show will be handed over to the Welfare Association Trust, Aluva”.

The show that commenced at 6 am will see its last caricature at 7 pm, and Badusha is hoping to complete 750 faces, including a picture of cine artist Tini Tom who was the chief guest for Kapricious ‘17, NORKA-Roots CEO and former Customs Commissioner Dr K N Raghavan who inaugurated Kapricious ‘17, differently abled artist Swapna Augustine, public who came for the event, students and the staff of KMEA.

“Art is essential in every aspect of our life, but one fails to realize this fact,” said Badusha. “I was surprised by the large number of students who showed up at 6 am to get their sketches made. It reinforces the popularity of caricatures,” he added.

Badusha, known as the ‘Cartoon Man’ among children is also an animator who has made several short awareness videoes regarding child abuse.
