Remembering the master 

Devarajan Master  Foundation along with Bharat Bhavan will be paying a musical tribute to the late composer on his death anniversary

KOCHI: The music fraternity in the city will come together to remember one of its masters, G Devarajan, on his 11th death anniversary. Music lovers will be treated with a spate of his ever-green hit songs as Devarajan Master  Foundation along with Bharat Bhavan will be paying a musical tribute to the late composer on March 15. 


From the very popular drama song ‘Ponnarivaal ambiliyil kanneriyunnoole’ to  hit film tracks like Thangabhasma kuriyitta thamburatti and Kayambooo kannil vidarum, Devarajan Master had scored music for over 300 films in Malayalam, Tamil and Kannada. 


He is also the composer of the soulful devotional songs like Harivarasanam  and Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil. Master is also remembered for using most numbers of ragas, from both Carnatic and Hindusthani, in film songs.      

In the programme, that starts at Bharat Bhavan at 6 pm, many prominent personalities from the socio-cultural spectrum will participate.

Actor Madhu, director and lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi, Swami Gururatnam Jnana  Thapaswi, Pramod Payyannur, Vayalar Madhavankutty, Vayalar Saratchandra  Varma, Balan Thirumala, M Jayachandran, T P Sasthamangalam and Poovachal  Khadar will be part of the commemoration. 


G Devarajan Youth Award 2016 will be handed over at the occasion by Bharathi  Thampuratti, wife of Vayalar Ramavarma. The function will be followed by a musical night where playback singers will sing some select songs composed by Devarajan Master.
