Wall designing is gaining momentum in Kerala with many home owners preferring wall paper and stencil work

KOCHI:  Malayalees, for long, have been experimenting with their homes. And they are willing to embrace the changes that evolve with time. Today, interiors play a vital role in moulding dream homes and the latest is wall paintings. If people, in the past, prefered white and light toned colours on their walls, today they are willing to accept vibrant colours with various combinations. The most modern trend in wall design are wall papers and stencil works. 


Customers, however, are still willing to choose durability over the rest of the features of home decor. This is why they go for special effect paints on their home walls. “We are getting good response and customers from social media,” said Sunder Arappattu, a licensed painting contractor from Mala.
 People prefer to have different designs for different rooms- including kids room, living room among others. “We charge Rs 100 to 250 per square feet,” he added. Latest designs in the market are design Stucco, design Antico,design Spactula, design Crinkle and marble finishings. “The work is not about brushing, but the execution of an art form “ said Nidhin a paint slinger.

Career choice
With a variety of job opportunities awaiting them in this field, youngsters are specialising in wall designing.  The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in association with the Union government is conducting painting classes to welcome fresh and talented youngsters. “The certificate course of  NSDC, in collaboration with the Union government include a 14-day regular class and internship. We give training on the tools, maintenance, designs as well as  behavioral patterns,” said Nidhin Raj accademy trainer.
