The fifth energy centre after you have tasted the possibilities in the other four chakras beginning from Muladhara is the Vishuddhi chakra. Vishuddhi means very pure. It is located at the throat region around the thyroid and the parathyroid glands. It is the seat of our communication abilities. When the Vishuddhi chakra is blocked, you will not be able to speak what you really wish to speak. You may have the ideas, but you will be unable to give expression to it in words.
Vishuddhi is also the seat of creativity. Most painters, artists, musicians and other creative persons draw their inspiration and energy from the throat chakra for that subtle edge in their work over any run of the mill outputs on a large scale. This chakra is also connected to the second chakra or the Swadhishtana and so one’s personal energy centre, the ego centre that is the sacral chakra has got a lot of influence on the creative identity and output of the individual. Since the Vishuddhi is situated at the throat region, it also governs the physical part of the neck, mouth, nose, cheeks, teeth and tongue. Food and sex are hence connected through these governing centres. If there is a repression of the sex centre, the Swadhishtana chakra, then the individual compensates for that through going on an eating binge. Either it is an excess of this or that and one needs to watch out with awareness in this regard.
Vishuddhi is represented in the material world by the empty, wide and expansive blue sky. The colour of this chakra is also sky blue. If you are a singer, speaker, video and radio jockey or a professional voice user, this is the chakra that you need to focus on to energise and remove the blocks. Removing blocks is possible through meditating on the light blue colour, meditating on the throat centre or chanting the seed sound for this chakra. You can even hum it because that sound itself is ‘Hum’ as in humming.
How do you know there is a block here? Well, if you stammer or are at a loss for words, if you feel your throat hurts or you feel pretty much unable to even open your mouth to assert a point of view in a debate or an argument, then the Vishuddhi chakra is blocked. Clear that block and move on in life from success to greater success, for what you express through words really gets you going to where you wish to be!
