It’s a one-of-its-kind combo. Techies and cinema. A group of young professionals in Technopark are all set to make it work.

Equipped with all technical tools, these youngsters are launching the concept of online movie promotion, an innovative trend fast catching up in the Internet marketing industry, in their own style.

Putting into use the power and reach of e-mails, Orkut (and similar friend communities), movie forums and blogs, and blending it with their genuine love for cinema, Amvizone (as the group is called) has come up with the online promotional idea for Malayalam movie directors. The promotion begins with the conceptualisation of a movie and ends with its release. If it happens to be a flop, they have failure control modes too.

Though there are many existing movie forums and blogs that carry movie reviews and tit-bits, this one involves step-by-step procedures and planning, aiming to reach at least five lakh Internet users before the film hits the celluloid.

‘’It’s a business proposal that we have charted out, which is a gradual building up of interest to watch the movie among the film-goers. We will create a blog for the movie, there will be interactions with director and the actors, trailers, song sequences, the interesting behind-the-scene incidents, reviews and contests. It’s for directors who will think beyond the conventional methods,’’says Sajith M.R.,one of the founders of Amvizone.

Amvizone, an amateur video zone, was first started by the seven-member gang to promote small videos. ‘Jaada at Work’, a video produced by them, had hit nearly 1.5 lakh visitors in a week. The group had then promoted the first blog camp of Kerala, which was held in a houseboat in Alappuzha with the support of Kerala Tourism. It had bagged the Google rank of seven for Kerala Tourism website in October, which was the first time a government website was making it.

The group had done sample promotions for two movies, beginning with ‘Thalappavu’. ‘’It was just a warm-up work for us, we began the promotional work just a month before the release. Similarly for ‘Parthan Kanda Paralokam’, we did some sample failure control steps. But officially, we are planning to launch our venture with a classic movie. And we are holding talks with the makers of ‘Yugapurushan’ for it,’’says Praveen, another Amvizone member.

‘Yugapurushan,’ the movie to be directed by R.Sukumaran (the maker of ‘Rajashilpi’ and ‘Padamudra’) is a film on Sree Narayana Guru. According to Amvizone members, there cannot be a better movie to start with. If the deal is struck, movie-lovers will get to know the unfolding of a good movie, in all aspects.

But what makes Amvizone really stand out is their passion for cinema. ‘’We have the skills and we know the technology. To top it all, we love films. We hope to bridge the big gap between the 70-mm screen and the small computer screen through this,’’Praveen is all-confident.
