Adventure AND freedom have always been the two major attractions of the desi manufactured utility vehicle series Tata Safari ever since it was launched. Soon, to make it up to the constantly raising bar in SUV performance with the entry of foreign brands, Tata launched the Safari DiCOR (Direct Injection CommonRail Diesel) with upgraded interior and exterior features. And now, with the addition of a new Gx variant, TATA MOTORS has expanded its Safari DICOR 2.2 range.
The three variants in this 2.2 range are the Lx, Ex and Vx. Though positioned below the top end variant Vx, the Gx offers several high end comfort and safety features. The new variant offers enhanced value to the Safari customer at an attractive price point below the top end variant. Safari Gx is impressive with dual tone exteriors in select shades, a first for the Safari range. The interiors of the Safari Gx too have been modified and that too the sporty way with a unique leather cum fabric upholstery. Two special features of Vx also have been offered on the Gx: reverse guide system with camera in rear bumper to aid the driver while reversing and ABS with EBD, both of which are preferred by customers.
Infact, Safari was the first vehicle in the country to offer the Reverse Guide System using a camera in the rear bumper and the internal rearview mirror as the screen. Another new feature is indicators on the outer rear view mirrors. This feature will be extended to other variants of Safari also. Alloy wheels are standard on the Gx on both 4x2 and 4x4 versions. Power steering, power windows, remote central locking, rear defogger, tiltable and collapsible steering column are also features worth giving a thought. Safari Gx has been launched at a price of Rs10.04 lakh (ex showroom Bhubaneswar) for the 4x2 version and 10.97 lakh (ex showroom Bhubaneswar) for the 4x4 version. The price of the Safari DICOR range starts at Rs.7.77 lakh (ex showroom Bhubaneswar). The Safari DICOR is one of the largest selling SUVs in the country with sales of over 11000 vehicles during April - January 2008-09. The Safari range presently includes the 2.2L Diesel DICOR , 2.1 L MPFI Petrol and a 2.0L TCIC version. It is a popular choice as an armoured vehicle amongst the security forces too.
