The much anticipated SUV from Force Motors, Force One was officially unveiled recently. The competitively-priced SUV comes with decent features and modern technology, which would definitely appeal to SUV lovers in India. Ammar Alvi has more.

Over the last several years, Force Motors has been quietly manufacturing reliable engines, light commercial vehicles (LCV) and other multi utility vehicles (MUV). With this solid background, it decided to enter the growing and profitable passenger car segment with its first SUV, Force One. Sceptics were initially worried about how an Indian CV manufacturer will match up to the likes of Ford, Toyota and Honda, established names in the Indian SUV market. Such fears can be laid to rest—Force One is a great first attempt, and the overall package will definitely appeal to many.

The SUV is sturdy, sporty, offers power and its ruggedness is ideal for Indian roads. The LED lights in the headlamp cluster is in line with other international manufacturers. A nice ground stance with lean proportions gives it look of strength. It even comes with new-age comfort features like driver information system, cruise control, audio control mounted on steering and dual AC vents for each row. Along with these, the SUV also has electrically operated OSRVM with side indicators and plush leather seats.

The ride and handling has been fine tuned by Lotus Engineering, UK. The muscular 16” alloy wheels and high ground clearance give it a formidable road presence. The 2.2 litre powertrain is made under licence from Daimler AG, Germany. Electronics are all audited and validated by Mercedes-Benz.

The turbocharged 2.2 FM tech engine beats out 141 Ps at 3800 rpm, and a massive 321 Nm at 1600 rpm. This beast stands at a kerb weight of 2,510 kg. Its high power-to-weight ratio, with top speed of 160 kmph, makes the drive a lot of fun. Interior panels have a wood finish, giving it an elegant and sophisticated look.

Force has roped in Amitabh Bachchan as its brand ambassador. According to Prasan Firodia, MD, “The designers and engineers working on Force One had a tough brief to develop an SUV for the discerning Indian buyer. Technologically advanced, great road presence, excellent ride and handling, immense space, in short, comfort at a competitive price, are some of the features we focused on. This is an SUV tailormade for the Indian customer.”

The SUV will be available through 22 dealers across the country, which is expected to reach 50 by year end, at Rs 10.65 lakh. Looking at the overall package, we definitely think it’s worth taking the ride.
