After buying back Renault’s share, Mahindra & Mahindra has relaunched the Logan as the Verito, with a new avatar.

Ammar Alvi reports.

Mahindra Automotive has recently launched its maiden sedan, the Logan, in a new avatar. With sales of just 500 per month, the Logan was feared to be the scapegoat of a relationship that went sour, but Mahindra has tenaciously decided to relaunch than scrap. After buying back the 49 per cent share owned by JV partner Renault, they put in some changes and gave it a new name as part of the restructuring.

Rechristened Verito, for truth, Logan is back to slug it out in the mid-size sedan segment. There are new ski tracks and side cladding, chrome attributes in the rear with a rear spoiler, besides other minute changes in the interior. The car is powered with the same Renault engines—a 1.5 litre DCI CRDi diesel unit, and a 1.4 litre MPFI petrol.

Rajesh Jejurikar, Chief Executive, Automotive Division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. says, “The Verito, with its unique value proposition aligns with the Mahindra DNA of offering tough, rugged and sporty vehicles. For the first time, we are using social media platforms to unveil a new product, reflecting alternative thinking. The earlier Logan will continue to get complete service and spares support from us.” The Verito comes with a tag of Rs 4.82 lakh for petrol and Rs 5.62 lakh for the diesel.

How it will fare, however, is yet to be seen. With recent entries of competitive models like Toyota Etios, and Dzire’s new version expected soon, what is good to see is Mahindra’s aggressive strategy to fill in the midsize sedan segment.
