Droid DNA vs LG Nexus 4 vs Note 2

Last week, the Nexus 4 had been crowned as the most powerful smartphone in the market. It had successfully beaten the iPhone's hardware on paper. On Wednesday, HTC announced its Droid DNA. Does it beat the Nexus 4 to take the top spot in the smart phone arena? And how does it match up against the Galaxy Note 2?

Lets first compare displays. The Nexus 4 has a brilliant 1280 x 768, 4.7-inch display that is absolutely gorgeous. One look at it and you wouldn't believe that mankind is capable of designing anything better. But fortunately, he did. The Droid DNA with its 1080p, 5-inch screen display churns out a shocking 440 pixles per inch or ppi, easily beating Nexus 4's 320 ppi. The Note 2 comes with a 280 x 720 Super AMOLED panel, that delivers only 267 ppi over 5.5 inches.

Now hardware. Both Nexus 4 and Droid DNA share the same processor, a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro along with 2 GB of ram. The Note 2 beats them with a Exynos Quad Core 1.6Ghz processor.

Like Nexus 4, the Droid DNA too takes a massive blow from the competition when it comes to space. It comes only with 16Gb of space and has no options of expandable memory. Samsung's note comes in three variants, 16Gb, 32Gb and 64Gb, along with a microSD slot, giving users more space to save photos, movies and music.

When it comes to battery, the Droid packs a 2,020 mAh unit that offers slightly less juice against the Nexus 4's 2100 mAh unit. But again, the Samsung galaxy Note 2 dwarfs the with its massive 3,100 mAh unit. But we are yet to see how the Droid DNA will manage its power.

All three phones include a 8 megapixel rear camera and have decent front cameras as well.

Moving on to connectivity, unlike the Nexus 4, the Droid DNA offers 4G LTE. Other features include Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, dual mics that help with noise cancellation and WiFi. The Note 2 comes with 4G LTE as well.

However, the big question is what sets the Droid DNA apart? The phone uses the latest Jelly Bean, draped with its HTC's Sense 4+ UI. On the optics section, it comes with a 8MP f/2.0 rear camera with 28mm wide angle lens, BSI sensor, Image Chip and of course 1080p HD video. Also, its front has a 2.1MP f/2.0 camera with an 88-degree ultra-wide angle lens. Another exciting feature being its Qi-compatible wireless charging. And when it comes to audio, HTC promises to be an audiophile's best friend as it utilizes Beats Audio technology, a built-in headset amplifier and even a rear speaker amplifier.

Does the Droid DNA beat the Nexus 4 on paper? Definitely, but the latter has little to worry about, after Google's UK and Australia stores sold out all their smart phones thirty minutes after launch. And how does it fare against the Note 2? We will have to wait to confirm that. But for now, HTC can rest easy knowing that their premium offering will say many takers this holiday season.
