There can be a time when the master of expressions is speechless, with tears as the only way to express his feelings.

It was such a reaction that Jayapriya Vikraman’s documentary, Vempatti- A Legend, had on her guru, Kuchipudi dancer Vempati Chinna Satyam. Jayapriya, a popular Kuchipudi dancer herself, released this one-hour documentary on Wednesday, as an ode to her master, who had turned 80 that day.

If there was a place, dance and music enthusiasts would have chosen to be on Wednesday, it would have been the packed hall in Narada Gana Sabha, which was made special with the presence of legends Vyjayanthimala Bali, Hema Malini, SP Balasubramaniam, P Susheela, Padma Subramaniam, Vani Jayaram, Anjali Devi, director Vishwanath and so on. The release was attended by more than 200 of his students. The kanakabhishekam event also included the announcement of a Lifetime Achievement Award, which was given to Vyjayanthimala. It included a cash prize of Rs 10,000.The documentary release function and the award was instituted by Jayapriya’s organization, the Nagabharana Arts Foundation.
