Striking the perfect balance

Gallery Exotica starts operations with an exhibition of works by artists Shan Re, Mini Arora and others

Gallery Exotica at Brookefields was inaugurated with an art exhibition and a book on coping with life’s unexpected turns. Dr.

Lilly Sanathanan’s book Life Vest was launched there.

The book is a guide for youngsters, especially young professionals, about dealing with the various dilemmas they face. It was written bearing in mind the author’s own grandson, meaning to help him understand life better as he grows up. The book reading on the inaugural day was related to a painting of the author titled Death and Destruction, the context of which are the 9/11 attacks.

The author spoke about achieving the perfect balance between mind, body and soul for spiritual harmony.

The author is an artist, writer, businesswoman and statistician, and these are foremost among her diverse interests. Life Vest has garnered praise from the likes of Nandan Nilekani, and is coloured with inspiration from art, vernacular idioms, music and even comics. The proceeds from the book go to the Whitefield Lions Club-run Computer Training Centre.

The inaugural show at Gallery Exotica focused on the works of six artists. Artist Shan Re’s works are mostly abstract with figurines and geometric strokes. While one set features faces and contemplations, another set is of nature inspired oil paintings that depict scenes in a flowery blur.

Mini Arora’s paintings are done in compelling dark shades of maroon. Sudhir Meher’s works are all done in patterns with very eastern touches to them. He uses traditional birds, flowers and stalks to create dexterous patterns. Artist Doddamani’s works are nudes with light playing on women’s silhouettes and bare backs. Triveni Vinod’s work at the exhibition is a series inspired by gems. The range of paintings with works such as Opal Symphony are done in radiant, bright colours.

These artists, according to Gallery Exotica curators, were chosen for “their diversity ranging from traditional to abstract, philosophical to whimsical to celebrate all aspects of life”. The gallery also houses artrelated paraphernalia like art-themed designer bags. The Gallery will hold an art auction and a jewellery exhibition on December 14. Gallery Exotica is located at #600, C Block, AECS Layout, Brookefields.
