CHENNAI: Even before its telecast on Vijay TV, Anbae Va, a serial based on a love story, is creating waves among the audiences. The promo is on air and the song is a huge hit, thanks to the young music director Radhan. “I’m so thrilled with the response I have got. I receive numerous mails from friends and listeners of the song and it’s a great opening,” he says. Having done a number of ad jingles, it was in Kakhi serial Radhan got a chance to do the background score, and it was followed by Rojakootam. “The producer and director explained the subject to me and I gave them a track and told them that I really loved the track, and they selected it,” says Radhan, who will soon score music for a couple of films.  Talking about background score in serials, Radhan says, “It’s quite a difficult job and also time consuming.” Most of the music directors prefer to do only title songs. One of the busiest music directors in Kollywood, Imman too started his career in serials. And, music director Dhina, who set a trend through his first serial Chithi too became popular in Kollywood. Thanks to serials, which not only give fame to the directors but also recognition, as it is played through out a year or two.

“I composed music for more than 150 serials and those days when I did Chithi most of the serials’ tracks were melody and the lyrics had to be meaningful, but now its fast numbers,” opines Dhina, whose son Ramkiran Dhina is also composing music for serials. His serials include Naanal, Penn, Lakshmi among others.
