Swami Yogeshwaranand Saraswati, born as Brahmachari Vyas Dev, spent most of his life practicing tapasya and yogic sadhana in the Himalayas. He was a serious advocate of yoga, and devoted much of his time to promote the ancient science. Born in a rich family, he left home at twelve, in search of knowledge and self-realisation. He spent his early years studying Sanskrit and mastering the scriptures. He journeyed to the sacred mountains in search of a guru, who could help him attain spiritual realisation.
Yogi Paramananda Avadhoot, a great ascetic, instructed the young seeker in the complex art of shunya samadhi. After that, he met his real guru, Avadhoot Swami Atmanandji in a cave near Gangotri, who taught him samprajnata samadhi, an awareness of various processes of nature in the state of samadhi, the ultimate divine knowledge.
Yogeshwaranand Saraswati’s search for further knowledge continued through his meetings with various ascetics in the Himalayas, from whom he learned more about yoga.
Throughout his life, he imparted this knowledge to those of all religions and nationalities who sought him out, and travelled abroad extensively, teaching yoga and spiritual epiphany. He attained sampoorna samadhi on April 23, 1985, aged ninety-nine.
