What’s a poll season without the punchlines, spoofs and slapstick comedy? Directed by Jalabala Vaidya, and choreography by Jaya and produced by Anasuya Vaidya, Let’s Laugh Again comes straight out of the unsparing pen of veteran theatre director and playwright, Gopal Sharman who has retained the play’s original music. A mix of political satire, slapstick, catchy songs and rib-tickling punchlines, the play is back on the Delhi stage. Jijabai Borekar MP, VIP and Dan Vir Singh, former MP from Asansol along with Rahu, Didi, Chikkilesh, Jharoowal and the rest of the gang brings music, dance, politics and space travel together. Gopal Sharman, who has written new versions of Let’s Laugh Again every election since 1976, plays Dan Vir.
He says, “We now stand at the crossroads.” Well-known actor, director and playwright Jalabala Vaidya returns as Jijabai Borekar “the space-travelling” MP VIP “with one foot perpetually in her mouth.” Young actors Nisa Shetty, Angad Thakur, Jaya Virrley, Sara Jaggi, Rakesh Palisetty, Pushkar Garg and others lend the cool quotient to the play that takes potshots at every political party and leader. For news junkies, there is Nation “Raise A Finger” Goswamy, “the anchor who is locked in a shouting contest with his guests.” Tickets for the sneak preview (for `100) are available at www.bookmyshow and Akshara Theatre.
