Bhama was not the first choice as the lead for Marupadi, reveals scriptwriter Julaina Ashraf.
The film, which was released on Friday, is a woman-centric one. “I wrote the script for the movie with a particular actress in mind for the lead role. But the actress backed out saying she is not ready to play the mother of a teenage girl,” said Julaina.
The filmmakers approached many other actresses, but no one was up for the challenge. Bhama, however, readily agreed to do the role.
“The only thing which worried me was whether I would be able to do justice to the character.
Other factors didn’t bother me and I am sure this film is going to be a bright spot in my career,” says Bhama.
Meanwhile, Julaina added that Rahman was her first choice for the film. “Rahman was the person I had in mind for Eby,” she said. Bhama’s last movie was Malgudi days.
