‘Post Steve Lopez, I wanted  to do something light’

Farhaan Faasil says he felt so intense post his debut movie, Njan Steve  Lopez, that he wanted to do something breezy. “The movie was dark and my character was so intense. I wanted to move on and my search for a light-hearted entertainer ended in Aneesh Anwar’s  Basheerinte Premalekhanam,” says the young actor.

Farhaan, who has just wound up the shoot for the romantic comedy, talks to Express about turning into Basheer and his equations with his brother Fahad Faazil and sister-in-law Nazriya Nazim.

When Basheer beckoned
Things weren’t easy as it seemed. The romantic comedy was set in the 1980s,and that is a decade before I was born. There was nothing I could relate to. But then, I had to get into the skin of the character. The first thing I had to do was to gain weight. I still remember feeling weird when I was asked to grow my hair and comb it in a particular way. I looked so odd. But, then that’s how Basheer had to look. The costumes too helped me turn into the character.
Both my movies are extreme in their content. In Basheerinte Premalekhanam, I was smiling throughout, while Njan Steve Lopez showed me as a brooding young man. That is an exciting contrast.

Looking out for a thriller
There are offers coming. I am in talks with a friend of mine for a project. But, time isn’t ripe to announce it. As of now, I havent signed anything. I am waiting for a thriller, an edge-of-the-seat kind. Basically, I am a lover of thirller flicks.

My filmi family
We do talk about cinema in our family, especially with my brother Fahadh and sister-in-law Nazriya. But, we don’t talk about our respective works. But, when the offer came for Basheerinte Premalekhanam, Nazriya read the script and thought that I would be perfect as Basheer. I discuss cinema with her a lot, so she knows what would suit me as an actor.

Acting with his brother
That is one project I want to happen, as he is a wonderful actor. There was a script that came to us but the film didn’t happen unfortunately.
