A rollicking comedy ride

Chunkzz will be a complete chilled-out comedy, says director Omar
A rollicking comedy ride

The most popular girl in the campus and her dark, awkward classmate - the leading duo of Chunkzz is a study in contrast. And, it doesn’t end there - Ria, the heroine, is older than Romario, the hero. “But the whole fun stems from this striking mismatch. The characters played by Balu Varghese and Honey Rose are childhood friends and the film is a rollicking comedy ride set in an engineering college,” says Omar, director of the film.

In Chunkzz, Omar’s next after the sleeper hit Happy Wedding, there are four chunkz, which when translated from campus parlance means buddies. “I wanted a title in tune with the youthful gusto of the film, something that captures its spirit. If you liked my first film you will definitely love this, Chunkzz comes with much more comedy quotient than Happy Wedding,” he explains. While Balu Varghese, Dharmajan Bolgatty, Vaishak and Ganapathi play the funny foursome, it’s Honey Rose who steps into the shoes of Ria.

In the film Ria is Mech Rani, a term so familiar with all engineering grads. “Normally girls don’t enrol for mechanical engineering, making it an all-boys stream. But once in a blue moon a girl joins and she soon becomes Rani, the queen of the whole department,” he says. Honey Rose went for a total makeover for the film, losing weight and switching to a fresh hairstyle. “In the film she plays a very stylish college-goer. She shed nearly 12 kilos for the film,” says Omar.

If Happy Wedding starred a volley of not-so-prominent faces, Chunkzz has names like Siddique and Lal in its cast. “I roped in actors who suit the characters.”

Omar says just like his first outing, Chukzz too guarantees some genuine laughter. “It’s a madcap comedy and the treatment is real swanky. You cannot compare it with regular comedies in Malayalam as the film has a not-so-common making style.”

He adds the film has every ingredient to make it a total entertainer and generate some earsplitting guffaws in the theatre. “There is a Goa trip in between followed by some suspense and a twist. Nothing earth-shattering, but something in sync with the mood of the story. In short it’s a complete chilled-out package,” he says. The film is expected to hit screens shortly.
