SAMBALPUR: After State Transport and Commerce Minister Jaynarayan Mishra, Speaker of the Orissa Assembly and Jharsuguda MLA Kishore Kumar Mohanty is embroiled in a false affidavit row.

Mohanty has been accused by Sushanta Patel, secretary of Rainbow Club of Laida village in Sambalpur district, of suppressing criminal cases against him in his affidavit while filing his nomination papers for the Assembly polls.

These included a case having charges under Section 302 of the IPC.

The complainant alleged that Mohanty has seven cases registered against him in Orient and Jharsuguda police stations in 1988, 1996, 1998 and 1999.

He said Mohanty informed about only two in his affidavit while suppressing five cases.

The district administration also bowed to political pressure and suppressed the matter, he added.

However, the Speaker said he was aware of only two cases and mentioned them in the affidavit.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Alka Panda told this paper that her office had received a petition about Mohanty on Tuesday and it was yet to be processed.

A decision on whether to order an inquiry would be taken only after examining the petition, she said.
