Centre sets up panel to probe crash

NEW DELHI: The Centre On Thursday set up a probe committee to inquire into a helicopter crash that killed Andhra Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and four persons accompanying him.

According to Civil Aviation Ministry, R K Tyagi, Chairman & Managing Director of Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd will head the committee to inquire into the circumstances of the accident involving crash of Bell 430 helicopter VT-APG belonging to Andhra Pradesh government.

The committee that would be based in the national capital has been asked to complete its inquiry and submit its report to Central Government within two months.

A statement from Civil Aviation Ministry said it had decided to conduct a formal inquiry into the incident in exercise of powers conferred by the Rule 74 of the Aircraft Rule 1937.

Three other members of the probe commitee include Captain Irshad Ahmad, flight operation inspector in Directorate General of Civil Aviation member, Sanjay Bramhane, senior air safety officer from Directorate of Air Safety, Mumbai, and Maneesh Kumar, deputy director, Air Safety — Member Secretary.

The committee will also take assistance of experts from the Indian Air Force.
