Vedike denies involvement in Mangalore homestay attack

Hindu Janajagarana Vediketoday denied that its activists were behind the attack ongirls and boys at a homestay here and alleged that residentsof the area were behind it.

"Residents of the area are responsible for carrying outthe attack. HJV is unnecessarily being dragged into thecontroversy. None of the assaulters wore headbands or flauntedany flag claiming allegiance to the Vedike," HJV convenorJagadish Karanth told reporters here.

"No victim had filed a complaint in the case, whichclearly shows their guilt," he said, demanding that thedistrict administration initiate action to curb "such immoralactivities".

The government and police should keep a check on spas,resorts, pubs and home stays, he said.

He said homestay and resort officials should ask customersto produce photo identity cards and install CCTVs.

Earlier, Youth Congress members staged a protest over theincident and demanded the resignation of Deputy Chief MinisterR Ashok. They were arrested for violating prohibitory orders.

Eight persons have been arrested in connection with theattack, allegedly carried out by HJV activists in an act of"moral" policing.

Suspected activists of Hindu Jagarane Vedike allegedlyattacked the homestay last night alleging that it was a raveparty at the homestay where illegal activities were going on.
