LUCKNOW: There is major trouble brewing for former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati as the Akhilesh Yadav government has decided to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe corruption in the construction of parks in the state.

The Uttar Pradesh police will form an SIT to investigate the scam in the building of Ambedkar parks in Lucknow and Noida.

The police on Monday also lodged an FIR against the project manager and the junior manager involved in the construction of the Kanshiram Eco Park, which is worth Rs 2000 crore.

Meanwhile, the UP police have asked for the cancellation of the passports of three top bureaucrats, who were involved in granting permission for the construction of the memorials.

There were massive financial irregularities detected in the construction of elephants in the parks built by Mayawati. Elephants made for Rs seven lakh were transported for a sum of Rs 45 lakh. The bills were inflated or forged to cheat the exchequer.

Acting swiftly, the UP police arrested Adtiya Agarwal, the main trader who got the contract for the construction of elephants.

Meanwhile, in another trouble for the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief, her key aide, Ponty Chaddha, on Monday admitted to undisclosed income of Rs 175 crore. Ponty will now pay a tax of over Rs 54 crore.
