Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who had contested and won from two Assembly seats, Budhni and Vidisha, on Friday vacated the Vidisha Assembly seat.
According to party sources, Chouhan’s wife Sadhna Singh will contest from Vidisha.
According to officials, the CM submitted the resignation to Principal Secretary, Assembly, Raj Kumar Pandey. Former state finance minister Raghavji, who had to resign from the ministry because of an alleged sex scandal, used to represent Vidisha earlier.
However, this time, Chouhan himself contested from the seat and won by close to 17,000 votes. He also won from his traditional Budhni seat by a huge margin of 85,000 votes.
Even though the party has offered no official confirmation on Sadhna Singh’s candidature, senior party leaders said that there was a very strong possibility of her being asked to contest the Vidisha by-election.
On her part, Sadhna Singh has never tried to hide her political ambitions. Ever since Chouhan became the CM in 2008, Sadhna has been playing an active role in running the administration in the state. She was at the forefront of campaigning for Chouhan during the recent held Assembly elections.
“She keeps a tab on the administrative movement of officials in the state and remembers which bureaucrat is posted where. Shivraj has given her enough political and administrative exposure,” a party leader said.
Soon after being sworn in as the CM after a resounding win, Vidisha was the first district Chouhan visited where he announced a host of government schemes.
