The Punjab Police have booked Sanjay Leela Bhansali, director of Bollywood flick ‘Goliyon ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ and its main cast, comprising actors Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, for hurting religious sentiments and its obscene lyrics.

And a case was registered against the quartet at the City police station in Hoshiarpur under Section 294 (Obscene Lyrics) and 295(A)(deliberate act intended to outrage religious feelings).

The police action followed a directive issued by Magistrate Mahesh Kumar, which came on a  complaint filed by the Bhagwan Parshuram Sena on November 15. And it had specifically named Bhansali as well as the three actors.

R P Dheer, counsel for the petitioner, who cited the Supreme Court verdict in the Madhu Bala versus the State case (1997) and another case in 2008, had submitted before the court that the SHO of the city police station be ordered to file a criminal case against the four persons named in the complaint.

Earlier, a similar case was registered at the Division Three police station in Jalandhar following which the film director and the actors had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. And the matter is scheduled to come up for hearing on December 3.

The petitioners have also sought a stay on the trial court proceedings during the pendency of the petition in the High Court.
