When BJP candidate from Mumbai North-Central Poonam Mahajan-Rao stepped out for her campaign in Tilak Nagar, a Dalit dominated area, on Saturday her supporters were surprised by the visit of an unexpected guest. Her estranged uncle Prakash Mahajan, the younger brother of her late father Pramod Mahajan, was at the forefront of the rally, asking people to vote for his niece. This was Prakash’s first public attempt for reconciliation with Poonam after their legal battle over ancestral property four years ago. Prakash, a Shiv Sena leader, had kept to himself after the family feud. “We sorted out our differences in 2013 and divided the property into five. Each one has got his share now,” he said. “I had some differences with my brother, but there is no ill-will about Poonam. She is working hard and getting good response. I thought I should stand behind her in such a situation instead of pulling her down.”
