The beginning of 2014 witnessed victory of Aam Aadmi Party as AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal made an impressive debut in the state elections in December 2013 by his encouraging speeches against misgovernance and corruption. AAP got power in Delhi as Kejriwal became the CM of national capital but soon after one month came one more shock when kejriwal announced his resignation due to delay in Jan Lokpal bill. Kejriwal accused Mukesh Ambani and Congress and BJP of indulging in corruption.

The interview of congress vice president Rahul Gandhi with Times Now chief Arnab went viral as irrespective of the questions of Arnab, Rahul Gandhi kept repeating the issues like women empowerment, RTI, issues of youth and improvement in the system which certainly raised questions on his knowledge about politics and various issues invloved.
His poor performance in the interview disappointed the party as the leader could not answer the questions related to 1984 anti-sikh riots. The party was to announce him as the Prime Minister candidate for the parliament elections scheduled for May.
Modi declares Jashodaben as his wife Before Lok Sabha elections
PM Narendra Modi for the first time declared Jashodaben as his wife in the election documents that he had to file from Vadodara. He publicly declared this by entering his name in the column which was meant for candidate’s marital status. This column was left blank as he did not reveal this in the Gujarat state elections. This got reactions of various party leaders across the country. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi made comments saying that Modi has poor attitude towards women due to which he did not reveal the truth for years.

2014 has been undoubtedly a year of great success for BJP and former Gujarat CM Narendra Modi who became the Prime Minister after winning the latest Lok Sabha elections in 2014. The Modi ‘wave’ surely helped the party win parliament elections in May 2014 After a long gap of 25 years as the party emerged as the single largest party and the country got a single party government.
Jayalalithaa convicted in disproportionate asset case
Former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalithaa was convicted by a special judge and was sentenced to four years imprisonment in the disproportionate assets case of Rs 66.65 crore which came like a shock for the people of TN and her supporters. The supporters protested against the government and many even committed suicides.
In 1996, Subramanian Swami had filed a case against the CM of Tamil Nadu that during her tenure as CM from 1991 to 1996, she made assets worth Rs 66.65 crore which were disproportionate to her disclosed sources of income.
ISRO Succeeds in Mars Orbiter Mission, Creates Space History
Isro succeeded in its Mars Orbiter Mission as India became the first Asian country to reach planet Mars. Space sector has undoubtedly done extremely well in 2014. India’s Mangalyan successfully enterted into Mars orbit on September 24, 2014. Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the country's space centre by describing their success as an ‘Endorsement’ of country’s space capabilities. This was marked as a historic achievement.
Isro made two successful launches of GSLVs and five foreign satellites in the orbit.It also tested the atmospheric re-entry of a crew module towards realising its ambition to send humans into space.
Cyclone ‘Hudhud’ hits Andhra
The worst of cyclone Hudhud hit Vishakhapatnam in the month of October leaving more than 100 people dead. Losses were pegged in crores. People dependent on fishing and other activities related to fishing were devastated as the cyclone left nothing behind. However, people from all over the country extended help to restore the damaged city. Though the tough time has gone, the city is yet to be restored as the damaged caused is vast.
Modi’s 'Swacch Bharat' campaign
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated Swacch Bharat Abhiyan in the country after becoming the PM and encouraged people of the country to participate in the same. To begin, he cleaned the streets of Varanasi with a broom in his hand. He also nominated various celebrities and well known personalities to participate in his cleanliness drive to make the efforts more impactful. Entire country is being encouraged to take part in the ‘Abhiyan’ and keep the country clean.

The year 2014 came with one more shock as BJP broke the alliance with its closest and oldest support Shiv Sena. The disputes went on for many days which created a lot of mess between both the parties and the leaders from either parties kept making harsh comments and remarks about each other’s parties during Maharashra polls.
Flood in Kashmir kills over 600 people
The devastating flood in Kashmir killed more than 600 people in different parts of Kashmir and Punjab and left many people homeless causing loss of property as well to a great extent. Army played a key role in rescuing people from affected areas and taking them to safer place, rescued thousands of people. Help from all over the country extended to the flood victims in every possible way.
Mamata Banerjee and Saradha scam
Saradha Scam brought a huge embarrassment for TMC chief and Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee as TMC MP Kunal Ghosh, who was arrested in November last year for cheating and criminal conspiracy in a case related to a complaint by a Saradha group firm, accused her of being involved in the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. Kunal claimed that Mamata Banerjee was the biggest benificiary of Saradha scam and that she and former union railway minister, Mukul Roy had jointley used the money of Saradha chit fund. Few of Trinamool Congress leaders were arrested earlier this year in relation to Saradha Scam.
Woman Raped by Uber Cab Driver in Delhi
Uber cab service was banned in the national capital after a 27 year old was raped by a driver of Uber cabs. The Delhi government banned all activities of Uber cabs after the accused driver, shiv Kumar was arrested on rape charges canceling the taxi permit and driver’s license as well. While the investigation also revealed that the cab driver was earlier jailed too in a sexual assault case which showed laxity on part of Uber. In response to this, Uber laid out additional measures to ensure the safety of passengers in the Indian market. People across the country and outside the country showed anger against the horrible incidents and asked the government to take strict actions against this.
