PATNA: Senior JD(U)leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday rubbished reports of a possible merger between the JD(U) and the RJD in order to counter the BJP’s rise in the state. Scotching the political rumours that have been doing the rounds in this regard, Nitish said that attempts were being made for wider unity among parties of the erstwhile Janata Parivar rather than a merger.

“There is no talk of amerger between the two parties-- the JD(U)and the RJD. However, we are working towards forging a political unity among the old Janata Parivar and would contest  next year’s state Assembly polls unitedly,” he  asserted. Nitish  also said that talks are on with all likeminded parties to work together in the upcoming Winter session of Parliament. “We had agreed that the BJP is getting excesive leverage from the split in the anti-BJP camp,” he said.
