NEW DELHI: An Right to Information (RTI) query has revealed that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had ordered the appointment of Malay Rai as a state finance commission member over the phone.

Rai is the former chairman of the Professional Examination Board (PEB), or Vyapam, in 2009-10, and the order was issued even as the Vyapam scam was being investigated.

According to RTI papers obtained by Vyapam scam whistleblower Ajay Dubey, Chouhan had ordered Rai's appointment over phone while he was in South Africa to invite businessmen and industrialists for a summit in Madhya Pradesh.

CBI registers five cases:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered five FIRs in connection with the Vyapam scam.

The FIRs have been registered in Pre-Medical Test 2010, Pre-Post Graduation Medical Examination 2011, irregularities in Pre-Medical Test 2009 and 2010, Forest Guard Recruitment in 2013 and Pre-Medical Test 2011.

The CBI has constituted a special team of 40 officers, headed by a Joint Director level officer, to probe the scam. The Supreme Court had last week transferred all cases relating to the Vyapam scam to the CBI.
