This question has divided the respondents, with an almost equal number backing the government and criticising it over the way it was planned — 40.05 and 41.59 per cent respectively. The rest maintained that they ‘can’t say’ if this rather complex economic measure was planned well or not.
For yet another time, it is Telangana where the support is the least and the criticism is the loudest — around 25 per cent, compared to 68 per cent against.
Karnataka recorded double the number of backers when compared to critics, evenly spread across the occupations, including even the unorganised sector (2.6 times) and small traders.
The figures from Telangana are high in all categories – unorganised (73 per cent), small traders (66.66 per cent), and even salaried and retirees (both 68 per cent) charging that it was planned badly.
Interestingly, the number from Communist-dominated Kerala threw up a curious view — the unorganised sector and the small traders have maintained that the demonetisation move was planned well.
