BENGALURU: The delay in the sanction of new judges and filling vacancies in the Indian judiciary renders the system inadequate, said Chief Justice of India T S Thakur on Monday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day 18th Biennial State Judicial Officers Conference on the theme "Walking the Extra Mile for Judicial Excellence" in the city.

Justice Thakur reiterated his disappointment while explaining the delay in filling huge vacancies and the sanction of new judges to address the pendency of cases.

Justice Thakur called upon the judges to be watchful to the recent increase in digital crimes, child pornography, etc.

Judges should have a positive approach towards the digital environment, rather than cynicism, Justice Thakur urged the judges.  CJI's observations came with reference to developments after demonetisation.
