Born to a daily wage labourer, Paramasivam in Sengottai village, P Ram Kumar managed to complete his graduation in mechanical engineering this year.

The 23-year-old resided in Choolaimedu which is close to Nungambakkam railway station. Incidently, the 8th street of Sowrastra Nagar is almost diagonally opposite to Gangai Amman Koil street, where Swathi lived.

He was in search of job for past three months and believed to have stalked Swathi for a few weeks or so. He used to follow her along her train journey, at Paranur where she works, and even to the nearby temples which Swathi frequently visited.

A one-sided love story turned deadly for Swathi after she rejected his proposals. Eventually, on 22nd June, he rained down multiple blows on her neck and face with a sickle which is said to be the kind used to cut banana trees in South Tamil Nadu.
