CHANDIGARH: The 49-year old Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) chief Harminder Singh alias Mintoo who escaped from the Nabha high security prison on Sunday, was caught by the Delhi police on a tip-off by the Punjab police at New Delhi railway station on Monday.

Police sources claim that Mintoo was travelling in the Toyota Fortuner with Palwinder Singh of Jalandhar. Singh was the mastermind behind the escapade and associate of gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon who was also in the Nabha jail. Palwinder was nabbed by the Uttar Pradesh police from Kairana in Shamli on Sunday on his way to Nepal. Mintoo reportedly got off the SUV at Panipat in Haryana and proceeded towards Delhi.

After reaching the national capital, he called a relative in Subhash Nagar in Delhi. The mobile he was using was being tracked by the intelligence wing of the Punjab police which immediately alerted the special cell of Delhi about Mintoo’s location and he was nabbed.

Sources claim that Mintoo was also on his way to Nepal from Delhi and from there to Malaysia and subsequently to Pakistan. However, the person from Uttarakhand who was supposed to aid him, backed out and he was asked to board a train to reach Uttarakhand, from where he was to be taken to Nepal. He was in regular in touch with his contacts there, sources said.

According to police sources, during his initial interrogation Mintoo said that two jail officials and a jail inmate facilitated his escape. Also, he claimed to have gotten in touch with gangster Vicky Gondar though them, subsequently learning about the escape plan.

A team of Patiala Police has reached Delhi to take custody of Mintoo.
