Gurmehar Kaur back on Facebook

Almost after a month, Kaur has re-activated into her FB account.

New Delhi: Gurmehar Kaur, one of the central faces of protest that emerged after violent clashes broke out at Ramjas College almost a month ago is back on social media after deactivating her facebook account earlier.

Daughter of a Kargil martyr, Kaur who is a Delhi university student, in a series of posts hit out at the alleged vandalism of RSS backed student group ABVP on campus during the episode. In one of the posts Kaur was seen holding a placard that read “Pakistan Did not kill my father, war killed him” and other said “I am a student from Delhi University and I am not afraid of ABVP” which went viral. Sports personalities, politicians and Bollywood celebrities such as Virender Sehwag, Randeep Hooda and Kiren Rijiju reacted against her post. After which she was allegedly subjected to online abuse and rape threats for her outrage.   

Almost after a month, Kaur has re-activated into her FB account. The 20 year old girl who became the center of talk reacted to a post on Lady Shriram College in the mid night and she shared an article in the morning on gender equality.

Kaur entered the Ramjas incident on February 24 with her post against ABVP. The controversy at Ramjas College took place on 21 February over an invitation to Umar Khalid and violent clashes broke out between the Left affiliated AISA (All India Student Union) and Right affiliated ABVP.

After been trolled in the social media sites she left the protest on 27 February and approached the Delhi Commission for Woman (DCW).

“I’m withdrawing from the campaign. Congratulations everyone. I request to be left alone. I said what I had to say. I have been through a lot and this is all my 20-year self could take and left the city and went to Jalandar” Kaur last post said.
