NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi party (AAP) has once again raised the issue of EVM machines and asked Election commission to conduct Delhi MCD polls through ballot papers.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal demanded of using ballot papers to conduct polls and wondered why the Election Commission is insisting on EVMs despite all political parties barring BJP, supporting the paper ballots. Also, AAP has written a letter to Election Commission asking him to order an investigation into cases reported by people regarding faulty EVM machines.

"All political parties (barring BJP) and the people of India want paper ballots. Then why is EC insisting on EVMs?" Kejriwal tweeted. Meanwhile, AAP also wrote a letter to EC asking them to allow them to pick variants of EVM machines used in UP and Punjab election.

“We hope that you would allow us to pick variants of EVM machines (machines with different software and hardware) used to conduct elections. Most importantly those recently used in the state elections of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, randomly from a strong room instead of the Commission providing us specific machines, so as not to give a chance for concerns that the machines provided are those specifically prepared for the demo/examination,” AAP said in a letter sent to Election commission.

Last week, the AAP national convener had met Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and urged him to order an investigation into cases of "faulty" EVMs and ascertain if their software can be tweaked "in favour of the BJP".

The Election Commission's claim that EVMs cannot be tampered with is completely "wrong", Kejriwal had asserted after the meeting. Responding to the allegation, the EC had said the AAP should introspect on the reasons for its defeat in Punjab Assembly polls instead of blaming Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
