Gurdeep Sappal resigns as Rajya Sabha TV CEO; Prasar Bharati CEO to replace him

Rajya Sabha TV is owned and operated by the upper house of Parliament.

NEW DELHI: Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar Vempati was given the additional charge of CEO of Rajya sabha TV on Saturday as Gurdeep Singh Sappal resigned from the post.

Rajya Sabha TV is owned and operated by the upper house of the Parliament. Last few weeks have witnessed many changes in the Rajya sabha TV particularly at senior level. Senior anchor Amrita Rai has also resigned from the post.

“Today, as I stand relieved from the posts of CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Rajya Sabha Television, I thank Venkaiah Naidu, the Vice President of India, for accepting my request of relieving me from the responsibility," Sappal said in a Facebook post.

Prasar Bharati Chairman A Surya Prakash tweeted, "Change is in the air in Rajya Sabha TV. Very best to @shashidigital in added responsibility!”

Officials said that more changes are expected at Rajya Sabha TV in coming days due to change of guard in the Upper House.

Technocrat Shashi Shekar Vempati took over as the CEO of Prasar Bharti in June he is the first non-Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer to head the public broadcaster which runs Doordarshan (DD) and All India Radio (AIR).Formerly as CEO of online media firm 'Niti Digital', he had played a pivotal role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's digital campaign for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. He had also worked with Infosys for more than a decade.
