NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated his radio address to applaud the achievements of the Indian scientific community and started with heaping praises on ISRO scientists who made the launching of a record 104 satellites possible.

“After the successful mission of sending Mangalyaan to Mars, ISRO scripted a world record in the arena of space. These satellites belonged to various countries...," Modi said in the 29th edition of his Mann ki Baat. He praised them for bringing space science to the common man.

“One out of these 104 satellites is extremely important. It is Cartosat 2D, which is India’s satellite and the

pictures clicked through it will be of great help in mapping of resources and infrastructure, evaluating development and planning for urban development,” the Prime Minister said enumerating the uses of the Cartosat 2D satellite.

The satellite, he said, will also be helpful for farmers by telling them about the presence of water and knowing how much water resources exist.

The satellite had started sending pictures almost immediately after its launch. “It has commenced functioning. It is also a matter of exultation for us that this entire campaign was led and steered by our young scientists, our women scientists,” Modi added.

Prime Minister also took the opportunity to exhort people to download the government launched App BHIM for electronic transactions.
